Sister Lauretta Elizabeth Kunkel (Sister St. Thaddeus) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON, died in Pembroke on the 6th day of June, 2016 in the 80th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Martin and Helena Mary (Rich) and sisters, Sister Agnes Cecelia, GSIC, Mary Hogan and Kathleen Stockill. Sister Lauretta was born in Wanda, Alberta, on September 24th, 1915. She entered the Community on August 14th, 1936, pronouncing final vows on July 31st, 1941 A teacher by profession, she ministered in various areas in Ontario including, Timmins, Ottawa, Midland and Victoria Harbour. She also served as Principal in Waubaushene, Our Lady of Fatima School, Ottawa, and in Nassau, Bahamas. In retirement, Sister Lauretta served as Pastoral Assistant at Resurrection Parish, Ottawa, and Sacred Heart Parish, Nassau. Moving to the Motherhouse in 1998, she generously provided chauffeur services for the Sisters. Sister Lauretta spent her final years peacefully, at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke on Thursday, June 9th, 2016 from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Liturgy in the Caritas Residence Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke.
