Prevost, Stephen M. Age 76, of Kettering passed away on Thursday, July 17th, 2014. He is survived by Carol, his caring wife of 51 years, and their 2 sons: Matthew (Melisa) of Gibraltar, UK and Daniel (Melanie) of Cincinnati. He is also remembered by 5grandchildren (Caroline, Alex, Will, Courtney, Andrew), hissister Elizabeth (Joseph) of Norfolk VA, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Steve was born in Wilmington NC, in 1938 (son of Frances and Stephen Prevost) and graduated from New Hanover HighSchool in 1955. He received an ROTC scholarship from the US Navy and graduated from Duke University in 1959 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, Steve served active duty in the US Navy for 8 years with posts in Washington, DC, San Diego, Vietnam, and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) before serving as a Naval Reserve intelligence officerfor another 16 years, retiring from the Navy at the rank of Commander.

Following his active duty, he and Carol moved to Atlanta GA where he was employed by Georgia Power, earned an MBA at Georgia State, and also campaigned for the expansion of the MARTA transit system.

In 1970 they relocated to Kettering, and Steve went to work for Andrew Plocher Sons Company in Dayton as a civil engineer and eventually became its president. Over the course of more than 40 years in the community, Steve was active in a wide range of organizations including the Dayton Rotary,Dayton Engineers Club, and the Dayton Welding Society. He was dedicated to the Easter Seals, serving as president of the local and state-wide chapters.

In retirement, Steve remained committed to his local community through active volunteering at the VA hospital,mentoring business students at the University of Dayton,working with the Boy Scouts, and serving as the alumni advisor of the Delta Tau Delta Wittenberg chapter.

Steve will always be remembered as a wonderful , lovinghusband, father, and friend who will be sorely missed.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23rd at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, located at 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Road. Services will be held on Thursday, July 24th at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 5520 Far Hills Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Easter Seals www.gesmv.org, Hospice of Dayton,www.hospiceofdayton.org or a charity of your choice.
