Doris Helen Speyer, age 83, of Kettering, passed away Oct. 25, 2014. She is survived by her two brothers, Bill Speyer (Darlene) and Don Speyer (Barb) and her sister, Marilyn Nagle (Dan). She was a cherished “Aunt Dori” by her five nieces and nephews, David Speyer (Ann), Greg Speyer (Terry), Debra Nagle, Lynn Stiles (Greg), Dan Nagle (Lisa), Susan (deceased) and six grand nieces and nephews, Nicholas Stiles, Corey Stiles, Keidan Nagle, Quinten Nagle, Sam Speyer and Anna Speyer. Doris was a graduate of Julienne High School. She was a retired Executive Secretary of General Motors Acceptance Corporation where she worked for more than 35 years. During those years she was actively involved in political campaigns that were close to her heart. She spent her retirement generously volunteering for the Kettering Government Center, Kettering Police Department, Hithergreen Senior Center, St. Albert the Great Church, and best of all she was the adopted “Grandmother” to the Kindergarten Classes at St. Henry’s School. One of her ministries was to send cheerful handmade cards to those homebound due to illness. Doris crocheted baby blankets and prayer shawls for local hospitals. She was an avid reader, a talented calligrapher, always in demand cookie baker, and loved to attend live theater and the movies. She will be greatly missed not only by the members of her family, but also by the many lives she has touched. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 29th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Schlientz and Moore at Rte 725 & Paragon Rd. Funeral Mass at St. Albert the Great Church on Thursday, Oct. 30th at noon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kettering Fraternal Order of Police and Hithergreen Senior Center.
